~ any new yorkers - and non-new yorkers - who were present at bryant park for the movie last night can all go to hell.

~ speaking of movies, the ‘akira’ limited edition is released today! if it is already sold out in your town, as it is in mine, try amazon.com [w]. tetsuooooo!!

~ there is still time for american west coasters to make it to the green party marches in protest of the violent repression of anti-globalization demonstrations. links to california actions can be found on the san diego greens website [w]. architects may attend these rallies and still fawn over the uninvested work of ‘global’ heroes rk, hdm, and rnt.
~ so there are protesters already being killed at g8; the angry red planet hereby authorizes open season on cops - genoan or otherwise.

~ i really hope the movie does not look as bad as the first half of the clip with the helicopter, but you can the ’spider-man’ movie teasers at jurassicpunk [w]. it is no doubt superfluous to point out that the soundtrack for this marvel movie is crap, since the faithful expect nothing else.

~ wandering towards a horrible proustian experience at central park - where we were to be subjected not only to the music of pop hack leonard bernstein, but also to uncouth behavior of every new yorker who has ever abandoned their trash on public ground or drunkenly and boisterously copulated also on public ground - our library had the benefit of a score from an upper west side trash can: first editions of complexity and contradiction in architecture and the international style.

~ hot damn, ‘akira’ special edition is released on dvd on july 24th! you can already order it at amazon [w].

~ to undermine any self-confidence in our own work, the angry red planet visited the whitney museum’s ‘mies in america’ show. we were a little disappointed in the negligence of the curators with repsect to the bacardi offices in mexico city; that is to say, they neglect to mention it. more disturbing, however, are the digital models of i.t.t. which render the brick infill as a running bond, when, in the actual event, an english bond is used. visitors to the show should be wary of the likelihood of two eventualities: ramming the ‘h-column’ hanging in the i.i.t. room, and leaving with the feeling of the futility of their actions against those of the master.
~ ‘a.i.’ will go down a lot easier for the kubrick fans who realize that he has been long forgotten as far as this film goes; it is well worth at least a matinée price, if one remembers that kids, though absurd, are choice evidence of our shared hopelessness. it’s the beginning of a year of movies sure to inspire regret for being stuck in the weak and powerless new york city theaters: ‘planet of the apes’, ‘final fantasy’, ‘lord of the rings’, and, of course, ’spider-man’.

~ also: john carpenter + ice cube = ‘ghosts of mars’. bass.

~ our holiday weekend in los angeles has ended in a healthy, though certainly temporary, reconstruction of our broken hearts; pico: hiked; orwell: read, tj’s: stockpiled, mani’s: consumed, toi: consumed, cb&tl: consumed, black russians: consumed, evicted roommate: spotted. all that remains is to destroy the memories of a flight full of wailing infants, a blistering santa monica sunburn, and the wasting of three bucks on ‘the mummy returns’; the superstation premiere of sam raimi’s ‘darkman’ will do the job.
